The Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead.

Like him, or hate him, he put Australia on the map. Ridiculed often by Australians and loved by overseas countries, he was an Australian icon. People might not know the Prime Minister of Australia but they knew of Steve Irwin. He was the real life "Crocodile Dundee"
Unfortunate and freaky that a normally docile manta-ray would take his life when he's dabbled and played with far more dangerous animals. Who would have thunk it?
Obviously I'm sad for his wife, Terri and two children, Bindi and Bob.
What are your thoughts? Not surprised?

Crikey!
I have always cringed when Ive observed Steve. Last night I watched the repeat of the Denton Interview with him. He really was a passionate man, and you have to admire the commitment he had to wildlife in Australia. RIP stevo!
With all the animals he tempted fait with who would have thought the unassuming stingray would get him in the end.
Did you actually know his wife and children or are you just jumping on the band wagon? What a load of crock.
I never really liked his shows because he's just too loud and in your face for my liking, BUT ... after seeing a few interviews with him I found a new, very high level of respect for him and what he was doing for our planet. There are very few people as passionate about their own purpose in life as this guy. Top bloke.
Thanks for your comments everyone.

I do not actually know his family, No. Is it so wrong to show compassion for a family that has lost their dad?
Is that jumping on a 'band-wagon?'
It's no bandwagon. It's a strange feeling to see one of our generations icons pass away. You naturally feel sad because these people have been a part of your life one way or another and you would always feel sad for those that he or she has left behind, particularly when they die reasonably young. For the last 30 years of my life I've been watching my parents idols disappear from this life and now, because I'm older, I'm starting to see those famous people who have been with me through my life pop their clogs too.
It shocked my socks off. I figured he'd go down with a raging crocodile or something.
How can you not have sympathy?
I think it was marvelous for him to die doing something that he had such a passion to do. He was very young to die but isn't it better to fully live a short life than to waste away slowly from an unfulled life?
Despite my earlier, inappropriate comment, I admit that the first thing I thought was 'Shit... he has young kids'.
And it doesn't matter whether you're famous or not. It makes your heart sink to think of young kids losing a parent.
At least, that's how I feel since jumping on this whole 'parenting' bandwagon...
